Designed by Dialog Architecture, an award winning building at the time -The new Richmond City Hall was one of the first public buildings in the country to adopt the principles of Feng Shui in its design, consulting with a Feng Shui Master in the early planning stages of the project and throughout the construction phase. Manual Teleshades throughout – Solarfective developed the T-10 housing for this project for the high drop main floor shades.
A double overlapping motorized blackout system was also supplied for the council chamber that was installed around a radiused facade that had technical issues and made for the development of improved universal axles. There was also a very challenging outwardly inclined high drop motorized system installed for an area on the top floor.

Located in downtown Vancouver and home to Shaw Communications’ headquarters for Lower Mainland Operations is credited to local architect James K. M. Cheng and the building stands 41 stories. This was the largest job for Cascadia in the early years (over $1M with change orders). Shaw Tower was made up of 42 levels comprising 24 stories of luxury condominiums and 16 stories of offices. All manual shades were in base contract and there were at least 40 custom motorized upgrades for individual suites added through change orders. We supplied and installed virtually every system (and a few new ones) that Solarfective offered. It was also the first time we used the Televent system for several of the office levels. It was very challenging managing not only the base building schedule but managing at least 40 individual highly custom residential suites at the same time.

One of Canada’s largest convention centres and the world’s first LEED Platinum convention center, Vancouver Convention Centre West fully integrates the urban ecosystem at the intersection of a vibrant downtown core and one of the most spectacular natural ecosystems in North America. Designed by MCM Architects, DA Architects + Planners ,LMN Architects and constructed by PCL Constructors. Cascadia used a ES Motorized Somfy ILT system interfaced with the building management system. The height of the shades required a custom bracket to allow the size of the roll and for the difficult mounting situations.

This building has some unique features and challenges for window coverings as can be seen from the exterior. The main boardroom has a 35 ft peaked ceiling with an all glass facade, making it difficult to darken the room for presentation. The solution was a Dual motorized and inclined shading system and 30ft wide bottom up angled roller shade with 50 pound counter weight.
